Schumaker Pond

Located in Wicomico County, Maryland

Schumaker Pond is a 35-acre pond in Salisbury (Wicomico County), Maryland. It is 116 miles southeast of Baltimore and 123 miles southeast of Washington D.C.

The Peninsula Regional Medical Center is only two miles away, and the Salisbury Regional Airport, which offers connecting flights across the United States, is only four miles away.

Life on the Water

The pond is situated on the eastern end of Salisbury City Park and is owned by the city. The maximum water depth is five feet. Small boats are welcome on the pond, and although swimming has been banned, the waters are excellent for fishing.

Nine fish species have been found in the pond including largemouth bass, bluegill sunfish, creek chubsucker, golden shiner, pumpkinseed sunfish, chain pickerel, black crappie, brown bullhead, and American eel.

Historic Salisbury

Even though Salisbury is the largest city on the Eastern shore of Maryland, it has a unique small-town feel. The town’s history dates to 1732 and stories are tucked away behind every corner.

Established in 1953, the Salisbury Zoo is a popular location and does not require admission fees. The zoo also has one of the area’s largest playgrounds.

If you are a baseball fan, head over to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium to watch the Delmarva Shorebirds. The stadium is the city’s second-largest seating venue and occasionally hosts concerts and other events. You can also attend concerts and productions at the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center.

Right next to Schumaker Pond is the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, which includes the finest and largest public collection of antiques and decorative decoys in the world.
